In 1885 Edward Jaques and his partner Edward Phillips started up a small engineering works at 1 Palmer Street. They specialised in rock crushers, cleverly filling a much needed void in the market, and went on to become Australia’s largest manufacturers of these giant and vital machines.
The Palmer Street plant was sold in 1997 and will be reborn into a residential complex. 1/5 >
